Everything you need to know about getting the best value for beauty “tweakments”

Despite the pandemic and the health risks associated with COVID-19, it seems that many of us still have other health concerns on our minds - our appearance.

Particularly, our aging appearance.

While sitting on countless Zoom meetings, FaceTime calls and Skypes with our colleagues and friends, we can’t help but glance to the bottom right window.

And what’s the result of hours of staring at your own face? Criticising our appearance perhaps a bit too much.

Coupled with “lockdown face” (a sallow complexion due to stress, lack of sunlight and lack of exercise), it’s no wonder that so many people are becoming tweakment-curious.

A survey conducted by Glowday reported that 70% of respondents said that seeing themselves on so many Zoom calls and Google Meets over the past year has made them consider having an anti-ageing treatment.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), reported seeing a 100% surge in demand for virtual consultations in 2020.

Why are more of us opting for tweakments?

What began as “above keyboard dressing” (the desire to look good on the top half of your body while on Zoom calls) has evolved into the Zoom Boom.

The Zoom Boom is the rapid increase in cosmetic beauty treatments due to the rise of video calls during the pandemic. Who knew that we would become so concerned about our appearance while staying at home, with no social plans?

Men and women alike are opting to invest in cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance.

In fact, BAAPS reported that a third of its members saw an increase in men seeking virtual consultations.

But consumers are now bombarded with emails for budget-friendly offers for treatments such as Botox that it can be tempting to go for a beauty bargain – but going for the cheapest option can be bad for your health, and your bank balance.

How much do tweakments cost?

The cost of a tweakment can vary depending on the procedure being completed, the location of the clinic, and the practitioner. Expect to pay the full cost of the treatment or procedure, which can often be expensive. Remember, this is more than just a beauty treatment!

For a Botox treatment on one area of your face, you might be looking at around £180+ for a procedure in London, after your initial consultation.

Typically, the effects of Botox will last for approximately three to four months. That means that regular tweakments could cost you around £720+ per year.

How do you know if you’re getting a good deal?

In the case of any cosmetic procedure, cheaper most certainly does not equal a good deal.

Always be sure to research the procedure beforehand, to understand the risks involved.

Remember to search for a trusted practitioner, who has a good reputation in the industry.

Read up on their reviews, their website, and any customer testimonials to ensure that you are putting your face in safe hands.

If you are interested in undergoing a tweakment during the pandemic, be aware of unethical marketing deals that you may come across online.

BAAPS caution the public against these deals which encourage panic buying which means consumers are not given the required ‘cooling off’ period of at least 14 days between a face-to-face consultation and the procedure being done.

So if you’re thinking of having a tweakment or cosmetic procedure yourself, make sure that you know what to expect in the world of cosmetic surgery before you go ahead.

1

Check out Glowday, dubbed the "Airbnb of aesthetics". It provides a list of trusted, medically qualified aestheticians and presents reviews, as well as before-and-after photos, with a breakdown of each treatment.

2

Remember that it is essential to have a face-to-face consultation after any initial video consultations. Meeting your provider in-person means that you can feel reassured about the procedure, and who is performing it.

3

Be sure to acknowledge the 14 day cooling off period and ensure that you are receiving the appropriate aftercare.
